1 Man Dead After Big-Rig Tire Blowout On I-215 Near Menifee

The crash brought southbound 215 traffic to a standstill Monday morning and left one person dead and another injured.

MENIFEE, CA — A 22-year-old man was killed Monday in a crash involving a big rig on Interstate 215 near Menifee, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported shortly before 6 a.m. on the southbound 215 Freeway north of McCall Boulevard, according to the CHP.

A big rig with a trailer was traveling in the #2 lane and had a left front-tire blowout just as a 2002 Toyota pickup was passing in the #1 lane. The big rig veered into the fast lane and the Toyota driver swerved into the center median to avoid getting hit but lost control, rolled and ended up in the #3 lane, according to the CHP.

The 46-year-old Toyota driver from Riverside sustained minor injuries and was sent to Wildomar's Inland Valley Medical Center. His 22-year-old male passenger, also from Riverside, died in the wreckage. The name of the deceased was not released pending notification of next of kin.

The 45-year-old San Jacinto man driving the big rig was not injured.

No arrests were announced.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
