'Doing Donuts' Kills 20-Year-Old Perris Man: Sheriff's Department

PERRIS, CA — Intersections across Riverside County are marred by circular tire marks from drivers "doing donuts." The dangerous practice has become a pastime after dark for some.

Over the weekend, doing donuts proved deadly for one young driver.

Twenty-year-old Angel Zamora of Perris was killed, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said Monday.

The solo-vehicle wreck was reported at 12:54 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Indian and Placentia avenues in Perris, according to the coroner's bureau.

A preliminary sheriff's department investigation into the wreck showed Zamora was doing donuts in the intersection when he lost control of the 2023 Jeep Rubicon he was driving. The vehicle rolled and landed on its roof, according to the law enforcement agency.

First responders performed life-saving measures but Zamora died at the scene.

Placentia Avenue between Indian Avenue and Frontage Road was temporarily closed during the crash investigation.

Authorities were working to determine whether alcohol and/or drugs were a crash factor.
