Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Motorist In Mead Valley

MEAD VALLEY, CA — A man was struck and killed Thursday after he walked into traffic on a Mead Valley street.
The fatality occurred about 5 a.m. on Cajalco Road, near Florence Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that the victim, who appeared to be a transient, stepped onto Cajalco and directly into the path of a Toyota Tacoma pickup, which hit him.

The driver, who was not injured, immediately stopped.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and found the victim lying in the middle of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup driver was questioned but not arrested.
Cajalco was partially shut down for nearly three hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted.
