Pickup Truck Collides With Big Rig On SR-74 Near Lake Elsinore

MEADOWBROOK, CA — A driver was injured on Thursday morning after colliding with a tractor-trailer truck, authorities said.

At around 10:15 a.m., the 55-year-old driver of a 2013 Volvo big rig hauling a trailer was turning left at the intersection of Highway 74 and Ethenac Road to head westbound on the highway when a 19-year-old driving 2001 Toyota Tacoma, driving at an unknown speed collided with the big rig's left side, California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig told Patch.

The pickup driver attempted to apply his breaks but was not able to stop in time, Lassig said.

The eastbound lanes were temporarily blocked by the big rig and pickup while CHP Temecula and CalFire/Riverside County Fire Department responded to the scene.

The 19-year-old man was taken to the Inland Valley Medical Center for minor injuries while the driver of the big rig was unharmed, Lassig said.

Traffic was temporarily slowed down as cars were diverted eastbound. All lanes are now open, Lassig confirmed.

The crash is currently under investigation.
