POLL: Super Tuesday 2012 – Who Won?

UPDATE 10:25 p.m.: Super Tuesday gave Mitt Romney a comfortable lead and Rick Santorum some steam in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

When the counting was nearly over, Romney captured Ohio, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Virginia, and he nabbed the Idaho caucuses.

Santorum won primaries in Oklahoma and Tennessee and held the North Dakota caucuses.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich triumphed in Georgia, while Texas Rep. Ron Paul took the Alaska caucuses.

It takes 1,144 delegates to win the nomination at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., this summer, and Romney has a very comfortable lead with 386 delegates at press time.

ORIGINAL POST: It's “Super Tuesday” and 10 states across the country are holding primaries or caucuses to help decide the Republican nominee for president in the general election this fall.

Massachusetts, along with Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia head to the polls.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Congressman Ron Paul are all still vying for the Republican nomination.

Super Tuesday is a key date in the race for the nomination, but plenty of states will vote after March 6, including delegate-rich states like New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and California.

Both parties hold their nominating conventions this summer. The general election is in November 6, 2012.
