Gas Scare Prompts Elsinore High Lockdown

A precautionary lockdown was called for Elsinore High School on Thursday.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA -- Students at Elsinore High School were on lockdown Thursday following reports of a gaseous release.

The lockdown was initiated around 2 p.m. at the campus located at 21800 Canyon Drive, but lifted around 3 p.m., according to Lake Elsinore Unified School District.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department officials told City News Service the dry ice exposure caused the lockdown.

The student population at the school is about 2,000. All are safe and they were released from school after authorities found it to be safe, officials said.

No other information was immediately available.
