Lake Elsinore Man Accused Of Threatening Family With Chainsaw, Knife Arrested

Deputies on Wednesday pleaded with a chainsaw-wielding man to leave the home where he was accused of threatening family members.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in Lake Elsinore late Wednesday morning, where a man was accused of threatening family members while armed with a knife and a chainsaw.

Deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station were dispatched at 10:54 a.m. Jan. 7 to the 400 block of Lookout Street. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that a male suspect inside the residence was armed and making threats toward family members, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect reportedly left the home while holding a chainsaw but failed to comply with deputies’ commands and went back inside the home, authorities said. Deputies continued negotiations as all other occupants were able to safely exit the residence.

With assistance from the Riverside Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau, deputies eventually took the suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Agustin Enrique Arana, a 32-year-old Lake Elsinore resident. Arana was arrested and booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information was released.
