1 Injured In Cajalco Road Head-On Crash

A patient was taken by ambulance to an area hospital after the crash, and roadways were temporarily closed.

LAKE MATHEWS, CA — One motorist was injured Thursday in a head-on collision just east of Lake Mathews, officials say.

Just after 1 p.m., 911 callers reported a collision at the intersection of Harley John and Cajalco roads, according to the California Highway Patrol.

"Two vehicles impacted at unconfirmed speeds, resulting in damage to both vehicles," they said. CHP officers partially shut down the intersection during the incident.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the crash scene within a few minutes and found one motorist with minor injuries. "There was moderate damage to the vehicles," a Cal Fire spokesperson told Patch.

The patient was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment and was in stable condition, CHP reported.

No one else was injured in the crash.

Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the wreckage.

As of 1:45 p.m., that intersection remained closed to traffic. All lanes were expected to be reopened before 3 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.
