RivCo Sheriff Seeks Public's Help To Find Homicide Suspect

HIGHGROVE, CA — Police sought the public's help Wednesday to find a man suspected to have killed another man in Jurupa Valley more than four years ago.

On Sept. 19 at 9:16 p.m., deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff's Station were called to the 150 block of Goldfinch Lane in the unincorporated community of Highgrove to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon.

When deputies arrived, they found an unconscious man, who was later pronounced dead, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said in a Wednesday release.

John Vargas, 42, is wanted in connection with the homicide, the department said. He is described as a 5-feet-4-inch tall Hispanic man weighing 120 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a tattoo that says "Maria" below his ear on the side of his neck.

Vargas has an active warrant with bail set at $1 million, police said.
