RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — If you love meeting new people, learning new skills and you care deeply about the environment, Riverside County is offering opportunities to volunteer across the county.

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is looking for residents who can help educate the public about recycling and composting or spend time composting in the county's resource garden.

Lynda Koskela first began volunteer with the department in 2019 because she believed in educating residents to see "waste as a resource" instead of just trash, according to a release from the county.

Those interested in volunteering alongside Koskela will get to pick from opportunities that range from Corona to Blythe. Volunteers can also handpick the events, dates and times that best work with their schedules.

Prospective volunteers must attend an orientation training and complete 10 hours of volunteer time each year to remain active. Those interested in extra training can become a Certified Master Composter. Masters can teach classes on their own and become mentors for schools or community gardens.
