Off-Road Activity Suspected In Perris Fire

PERRIS, CA — Possible off-road activity might have triggered a fire on the east end of Perris Wednesday that burned roughly an acre before crews stopped it, officials said.

The blaze was reported at about 2:50 p.m. in the area of Foothill and Lemon avenues, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in open space amid light south winds.

Firefighters stopped the blaze's forward rate of spread shortly after 3 p.m.

Two Cal Fire air tankers were called to the location, but they did not make any runs on the fire, returning to Hemet-Ryan Airport loaded, according to reports from the scene.

The blaze was initially reported as the result of an off-road accident, but sheriff's deputies searched the area and could not locate any vehicles or victims, officials said.
