SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: Wind Advisory Issued

Winds will strengthen again late this evening through Thursday morning, gradually weakening through Thursday evening.

A wind advisory is in effect for the Inland Valleys and much of Southern California through 10 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

“A high pressure over the great basin and east flow aloft will bring moderate to locally strong northeast to east winds through the early afternoon. Winds will strengthen again late this evening through Thursday morning, gradually weakening through Thursday evening,” the National Weather Service reported.

Northeast to east winds in and below the mountain passes will blow 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph. “Isolated gusts to 60 mph are likely in the in the favored locations,” according to the agency.

The strongest winds will blow late this evening through Thursday early afternoon, the agency reported. Winds will slowly weaken into Friday.

The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high profile vehicles. East-west oriented roads below the Cajon Pass and north-south oriented roads below the the San Gorgonio pass will be particularly susceptible to strong cross winds and hazardous driving conditions. This includes highways 210, 60, 91 and 79, as well as Interstate 10.
