Teen Skateboarder Hit, Killed Near Elsinore Skate Park

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Sheriff's officials are looking for the person responsible for hitting a teenager as he was out skateboarding in Lake Elsinore late Wednesday night. The man was dragged down the street before the driver took off from the scene, according to witness reports.

It happened around 11 p.m. in the 19600 block of Palomar Road, according to sheriff's Sgt. Steve Jimenez. That's near Serenity Skate Park.

"Upon their arrival, deputies learned an adult male was riding his skateboard near the westbound bicycle lane of Palomar Road," Jimenez said in a news release. "The male was struck by a vehicle traveling in the westbound lane. The driver briefly slowed and then continued west on Palomar Road."

Coroner's officials say Daniel Hernandez died about 40 minutes later at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.

"The Lake Elsinore Traffic Team is conducting a full investigation into the cause of the collision," Jimenez said. "At this time, it is unknown if alcohol/drugs will be a factor in this collision."

Though police did not have additional details to release immediately, a witness to the incident posted a video on Facebook pleading for help finding the person who hit Hernandez.

"They ran over my skater," he says while sobbing. "They dragged him down the street... if anyone sees an older white car... with no license plates, with black rims, please call the sheriff's department... I need help, please."
