Briefing, July 23: Fibromyalgia Workshop, Golf Champ

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for Lake Forest residents.

• A workshop today by Dr. Jeffrey Van Rensselaer and associates will include free tests to determine if an innovative technique can help sufferers of Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain syndromes. Call 949-328-4980 to reserve a space. The event begins at 7 p.m. near Lake Forest and Rockfield.

That figures to be the subject of intense discussion in Rancho Santa Margarita tonight following the drowning death of a 3-year-old amidst 700 people at an HOA-run Independence Day celebration.

• Luis Carrasco Jr., of Irvine, won $1,000 at the Lake Forest Golf and Practice Center in a Par 3 Tour event. In the nine hole format, he finished one stroke ahead of four others, including his father. 

• El Toro High's Fastbreak Basketball Camp for boys and girls begins next Monday, so be sure to sign up this week. Register through the Saddleback Valley Unified School District's recreation department at 949-768-0981.

• If you've got the time, this discussion figures to have some pretty cool visuals. Computer graphics whizzes will discuss the visual effects in such films as “Pacific Rim,'' “Superman: Man of Steel'' and Disney's “Frozen” at the 40th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, which runs through Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center.
