Fire Damages Lake Forest Home

The fire department credits quick thinking by the homeowners for limiting the damage.

LAKE FOREST, CA — A house fire caused extensive damage to a Lake Forest home on Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority PIO, residents of a home in the 22200 block of Cripple Creek in heard a loud noise in their garage at 4:11 p.m.

"They opened the door between the house and the garage and saw a fire," the department PIO said in social media posts. "They quickly closed the door and safely escaped to call 9-1-1."

Firefighters got to the home quickly and had the flames knocked down in 20 minutes. They managed to prevent the fire from spreading from the garage to the house.

The fire department also credits the homeowners with preventing damage to their home by closing the door. "If you can safely close doors when you escape a fire, it helps limit the damage caused by smoke and fire."
