Lake Forest Residents Can Drop Off Their Hazard Waste At El Toro High

LAKE FOREST, CA — Residents hoping to get rid of household hazardous waste like old paint and used motor oil will get their chance Saturday and Sunday when El Toro High Schools hosts a collection event.

The collection event, in partnership with the city and CR&R Environmental Services, will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The collection will be at El Toro's student parking lot on the corner of Ridge Route Drive and Serrano Road.

The collection event will be free to Lake Forest residents who can show their proof of residency, such as a valid driver's license or utility bill, city officials said.

The types of hazardous waste accepted at the event include:

• Paint and painting supplies — latex, oil-based, thinners, strippers, stains and finishes
• Automative products — oil, antifreeze, brake and transmission fluid, batteries
• Cleaning products — drain cleaner, oven cleaner, pool chemicals
• Pesticides and herbicides — bug sprays, rodent poison and bait, repellents
• Aerosol cans

Other wastes accepted at the event include:

• Electronics — televisions, computer monitors, stereo equipment, DVD players, cellphones, printers
• Household batteries
• Fluorescent lightbulbs and tubes

Residents should keep the hazardous waste separate and in their original containers. Containers should be clearly labeled and secured with a lid, be sturdy and not leaking.

The disposal event will not accept containers that are more than five gallons.
