O.C. Man Who Died Following Assault Near Park ID'd

The Irvine resident was attacked by a group of people Saturday evening, police said.

SANTA ANA, CA —A man found fatally wounded from an assault by several people near the entrance to Santiago Park in Santa Ana was publicly identified Monday.

Cesar Gonzalez, 39, was an Irvine resident, said Supervising Deputy Orange County Coroner Erica Arellano.

Officers were dispatched at 8:23 p.m. Saturday in response to a report of several people assaulting a man near the entrance to Santiago Park, at Main Street and Walkie Way, Santa Ana police said.

"Officers arrived and located an adult male with numerous wounds on his upper body, which were bleeding profusely," according to a police statement.

Paramedics rushed him to an area trauma center, where he died from his injuries at 9:13 p.m.
