Pedestrian Struck, Killed On 405 Freeway Overnight

It was not immediately clear why the victim ran across the busy freeway in the Irvine area Tuesday night.

LAKE FOREST, CA — The northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Irvine was closed to traffic Tuesday evening after a man ran across the southbound lanes, crossed the center divider and was struck and killed, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol temporarily shut down all northbound freeway lanes between MacArthur Boulevard and the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway after the fatality, which occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

As of about 9:30 p.m., the carpool and left lane remained closed, but the other northbound lanes had been reopened.
