Plan To Build $20M Homeless Shelter In Irvine Up For Debate Tuesday
The Irvine City Council will hold a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, to discuss its recent $20 million approval for the plan.
IRVINE, CA — Irvine City councilmembers will hold a special meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to discuss its recent $20 million approval to purchase property on Armstrong Avenue for a new homeless shelter.
While the deal has not closed, the city is scheduled to close escrow on Tuesday, city officials said Monday.
The council approved the purchase of two adjacent lots, 17572 and 17622 Armstrong Ave., for the shelter at its last meeting on Oct. 22.

The decision passed with only Councilmember Mike Carroll voting against the purchase, reasoning that he was concerned about greenlighting a real estate transaction of that degree without the plan going before any city commissions or resident forums.
