Video: Car KOs Hydrant, Looks Just Like Cartoon

All those cartoons you've seen of fire hydrants being knocked over and water shooting high into the air? They were true.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a man driving a 2012 Toyota Camry indicated he was feeling woozy and may have passed out on Tuesday, about 12:20 p.m.

The vehicle then went off northbound Rancho Parkway in front of Home Depot and sheared a fire hydrant from its line near the stoplight entrance to the commercial center.

Water gushed an estimated 70-80 feet into the air, about 2,000 gallons per minute. About the only thing missing from the scene was Elmer Fudd, or maybe Wile E. Coyote.

The water came crashing down on a 2008 BMW 535i that was parked near the hydrant in the parking lot.

By comparison, Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park averages an eruption height of about 130 feet.

After arrival of the Orange County Fire Authority, two men—bombarded by the heavy spray—turned off the main line that fed the hydrant, which was knocked completely off the pipe feeding it. The hydrant weigh about 100 pounds.

The fountain—it turned out to be an impressive looking water feature—finally stopped after about 12 minutes.
