La Mesa DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Friday Night

LA MESA -- The La Mesa Police Dept. has revealed where it will have a DUI checkpoint set up this weekend.
The location for the LMPD’s planned DUI checkpoint on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, will be at 7100 University Ave., La Mesa, CA 91941, according to a news release issued Thursday by the City of La Mesa.
The planned hours for the checkpoint are from 8 pm Friday until 2 am Saturday morning.

The LMPD announced the checkpoint on Monday, but the location wasn't revealed until Thursday morning.
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of driving under the influence-related crashes and arrests, according to the PD. During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, according to police, but to deter people from driving impaired.
