Top-Winning Mega Millions Ticket Purchased At This East Bay Gas Station

LAMORINDA, CA — A lottery ticket worth $713,143 was sold at a gas station in Lamorinda, California state lottery officials said Wednesday.

The MegaMillions ticket had five of five numbers— 3, 18, 27, 29 and 64 — in Tuesday night's drawing. It was purchased at the 76 Station at 3500 Mount Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette. Lottery officials did not say whether the winner claimed their prize Wednesday.

With no tickets bearing the Mega Number, 1, to win the $57 million jackpot, the Lamorinda ticket was the top winner of the night.

There were 88,127 other winning tickets Tuesday night, including 77 with four of four numbers worth $345 each.

The fastest way to claim prizes over $600 is to go to a Lottery District Office. In Contra Costa County, one is located at 618 South 8th St. in Richmond. Winnings can also be claimed by mail, and prizes up to $599 can be redeemed at California lottery retailers.

MegaMillions is a multi-state draw game available through 47 lotteries nationwide and known for its big jackpots. The drawings are held at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Friday nights.

The odds of winning five of five MegaMillions numbers are 1 in 12,607,306.

In California, 95 cents of every player dollar goes back to the community through contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery has generated more than $41.5 billion for California public schools since it began in 1985.
