BART Shut Down From Orinda To Rockridge This Weekend For Construction
It's the first of five non-consecutive weekends the trains will not run between the two BART stations to allow Yellow Line improvements.

ORINDA, CA — Free buses will replace BART trains between Rockridge and Orinda stations this weekend while crews make extensive track upgrades.
It's the first of five non-consecutive weekends the trains will be shut down between the two BART stations to allow for major track improvements. Crews will replace an interlocking between the Rockridge and Orinda stations. Interlockings are an essential part of the system and allow BART to safely move trains from line to line.
The equipment being replaced on the Yellow Line trains—the busiest in the BART system—is decades old and has outlived its design life, according to BART. Riders will enjoy a smoother, safer, more reliable, and quieter ride once the projects are complete.

BART advised riders to expect delays of 30 minutes in the work area on shutdown weekends.

Project Noise May Affect Some Neighbors, Nearby Businesses
To perform this critical work, BART crews will set up lights, generators, excavators, compacting equipment, and other heavy equipment near and on the trackway near Rockridge and Orinda stations during the track closure weekends and overnight on some weekdays.
Some neighbors and nearby businesses will experience noise coming from equipment and crews
along with construction lighting at night, according to BART. Noise levels are expected to be like those from past maintenance work in the area.
Some construction will take place during hours when BART trains are not running. Any work that can be completed without disruption to service will be facilitated within these windows, BART said.
