
The Acalanes Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) invites local students in grades 5–8 to participate in the annual DAR American History Essay Contest, a national competition that brings history to life!
📜 This Year’s Question:
America will celebrate her 250th birthday on July 4, 2026! If you could go back in time and meet one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence for lunch, who would you choose? How did their actions and service contribute to our Country becoming independent?

Students should choose one signer and reflect on the courage, ideals, and actions that helped forge our nation.
One winner per grade level will be chosen by the Acalanes Chapter DAR and advanced to district and state-level competition.

Open to students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 enrolled in public, private, or homeschool programs in our community.
Essay length:
- Grade 5: 300–600 words
- Grades 6–8: 600–1,000 words
Deadline for submissions: October 15, 2025
