Car Abandoned 25 Feet Off Steep Contra Costa Roadway

The car was found near Shepherd's Canyon Scenic Route and Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A car was found abandoned Wednesday down an embankment from a curvy, two-lane road west of Lamorinda, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Contra Costa CHP officers responded at 11:17 a.m. and located the car 25 feet off westbound Pinehurst Road — 300 feet east of Skyline Boulevard, near Shepherd's Canyon scenic route and close to a trailhead for Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve.

The car was cold to the touch, with the driver's door open as well as the rear hatch.

There was nothing to indicate anyone was critically injured went the car went off the roadway, according to the CHP.

At publication time, CHP had just cleared the scene after waiting for a tow truck.

A description of the car was not available and it was not known whether CHP was able to contact its owner.
