Gold Coast concert: Brahms Reunion

The Gold Coast Chamber Players open their 23rd Season with Brahms Reunion on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 7:30 pm in the Don Tatzin Community Hall at the Lafayette Library, 3491 Mt. Brahms Reunion begins the 2022-23 season with a pair of powerful works by Brahms. The F major Cello Sonata, op. 99, like many of the works from Brahms’s fullest maturity, is suffused with an autumnal glow that speaks of the composer’s satisfaction with his life at that time. Paired with the Cello Sonata is the epic f minor Piano Quintet, op. 34 with its wealth of ideas and dynamic range of emotions.

Starring in this blockbuster program are two leading Italian musicians, cellist Luigi Piovano and violinist Grazia Raimondi. As Principal cellist of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, Piovano is one of the most sought-after cellists throughout the world. The romantic program is well suited for Piovano to perform with his wife, Grazia Raimondi, a violin soloist who concertizes throughout Italy and abroad. Joining them is violinist Livia Sohn and pianist Bernadene Blaha who, with Piovano, formed the Latitude 41 Trio, and violist Pamela Freund-Striplen.
