🇺🇸 Honor Our Heroes This Veterans Day 🇺🇸

Remembering Lt. Herbert Berndt, Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient and longtime Lafayette resident.

On Saturday, December 13 at 12 noon (rain or shine), the Acalanes Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, together with VFW Post 8063, invites the community to join us at Lafayette Cemetery for Wreaths Across America.
Nearly 350 veterans rest at Lafayette Cemetery, and on this special day, volunteers will place a wreath on each veteran’s headstone — saying every veteran’s name aloud to ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten.
Among them is Herbert Berndt, a longtime Lafayette resident and Army officer during World War II who received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. A native of Morton, Minnesota, he enlisted in 1942 and served in the Field Artillery Corps. The Oakland Tribune reported in January 1945 that Lt. Berndt had been wounded in action — likely in December 1944 during the fierce fighting of the Battle of the Bulge, although this has not been independently verified. At war’s end, he was appointed Provost Marshal in Landstuhl, Germany.
After returning home, Mr. Berndt worked for 30 years with Sears, Roebuck & Co. and made Lafayette his home for 45 years.
Please join us to honor Mr. Berndt and all who served.

Let’s come together this holiday season to remember, honor, and teach. ❤️🤍💙 Families and youth groups are especially welcome to help place wreaths and learn the meaning behind each veteran’s name.
