Honoring Heroes: Wreaths Across America Ceremony at Lafayette Cemetery

Acalanes DAR Chapter and VFW Post 8063 to Place Wreaths on 335 Veteran Graves, Including a Tribute to Army Couple Grace and Joseph Fox

LAFAYETTE, CA — On Saturday, Dec. 14, at noon, the Acalanes Chapter of the DAR, VFW Post 8063, and community volunteers will gather to place wreaths on the graves of 335 veterans at the historic Lafayette Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America Ceremony.

The public is warmly invited to join in honoring the service and sacrifices of these veterans. Among those remembered are Grace Canfield and Joseph Fox, who met and married while serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. Canfield served as an Army nurse, while Fox held the rank of captain in the Third Regiment, PNG.

The couple wed in Manila in 1917 and returned to the U.S. in 1922, making their home in Oakland. In 1930, Joseph Fox was tragically killed while trying to stop a bank robbery, and Grace Fox later passed away in 1953 at the Veterans Home in Napa. Grace and Joseph Fox rest side by side at the Lafayette Cemetery, where wreaths will be placed in their memory on Dec. 14 at noon.
