Lafayette, Calif -- If Measure H passes, a Citizen’s Oversight Committee will be formed. Measure H revenues and expenditures will be included in the City’s annual comprehensive financial report to publicly monitor how the funds are spent.

Measure H will appear on the November 5th, 2024 ballot. It asks Lafayette voters to authorize a ½-cent increase in the City’s sales tax for a period of 7 years.

The City currently has 17 standing boards, commissions, and committees comprised of 125 volunteers. See https://lovelafayette.org/commissions for more information about existing advisory bodies, the selection process, and current openings.

If authorized, Measure H will generate approximately $2.4 million annually for City services. All funds generated by the sales tax will be locally controlled and remain in Lafayette to provide important City services. By law, the State cannot take this funding away, and the City is not required to share these monies with any other entity.

Funds raised by this 1/2-cent sales tax would go directly into the City of Lafayette’s General Fund to help pay for city services, including to:

  • Maintain public streets and storm drains and provide pothole repair.
  • Fund wildfire preparedness activities.
  • Maintain the number of sworn police officers at the current level.
  • Provide services for senior citizens.
  • Clean and maintain City parks, open spaces, paths, and playfields.
  • Implement traffic safety on City streets and roads for all users.
  • Continue financially supporting community partners like the Chamber of Commerce and the School District.

The City is currently facing an ongoing 10% structural deficit. If voters do not pass Measure H, the City Council will have to consider cutting back or discontinuing City programs and services as part of the budgeting process.
