Lafayette Among America's 25 Richest Cities: Report

LAFAYETTE, CA — Lafayette is the 14th wealthiest community in the country based on median household income and five-year estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey analyzed in a report from 24/7 Wall St.

Lafayette has a median household income of $192,546, several popular hiking trails and stunning wildflowers. The wealthy enclave east of Berkeley has a population of 25,384 and a not-too-shabby median house value of $1,878,471, according to the survey and Zillow. More than 74 percent of its residents have a bachelor's degree or higher when it comes to education, and just 2.4 percent of its residents receive SNAP benefits.

Although 11 Bay Area cities comprised almost half of the Top 25 list, including the number one spot, Lafayette's Lamorinda counterparts Moraga and Orinda did not make the cut.

Two other Contra Costa County cities, Danville and San Ramon, did make it and were ranked 17th and 25th, respectively. Danville has a median household income of $181,453 and a median house value of $1,844,228, while San Ramon has a median household income of $173,519 and a 2023 median home value of $1,534,352. With 85,688 residents, San Ramon has the highest population on the Top 25 list, while Danville's population is 43,673.
