Lafayette’s 2025 Paving Project Means Road Closures And Detours
A major road paving project in Lafayette is behind city street closures and detours, impacting local traffic.
LAFAYETTE, CA – Residents of Lafayette should expect road closures and detours stemming from the city’s “2025 Road Paving Project.”
The project, managed by the City of Lafayette, got underway in late-April 2025 and is expected to be completed by early September.
Lafayette City Council, at its meeting on March 24, 2025, awarded Hayward-based Rapid Grading Services a construction contract for the project, in the base bid amount of $2,539,677.60, according to the city’s official website.

The roadwork will affect various streets throughout Lafayette, such as Mt. Diablo Boulevard, from El Nido Ranch Road to Acalanes Road, where existing bicycle striping will be upgraded and curb ramps will be reconstructed.
St. Mary’s Road, from the north intersection of Glenside Drive to Rohrer Drive, is another thoroughfare that factors into the project plans. For the work on St. Mary’s, which includes adding concrete curb ramps at intersections to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards, a detour will be implemented to “facilitate better traffic flows,” according to a news release.

The project will also involve the installation of new concrete bus pads; replacing metal beam guardrails; and repaving the eastside asphalt pathway between S. Lucille Road and Rohrer Drive, according to the City of Lafayette website.
Residents traveling to Lafayette or Highway 24 should consider using Moraga Road to avoid delays during the construction work, as advised in the news release.
