Lafayette’s Senior Services Program Enriches Lives of Older Residents

The City’s Parks, Trails & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of services, programs, and resources to enrich the lives of adults 55+, including educational and recreational programs. These include the following:

Lafayette Senior Services Program

Lafayette residents who are 55+ can join the membership-based Lafayette Senior Services program. Membership is $15 per person for the calendar year and is free for residents over age 90. “With membership, most classes offered by the City are free,” said Jonathan “Ace” Katayanagi, Lafayette Parks, Trails & Recreation Director.

Lamorinda Spirit Van

Since 2006, the Lamorinda Spirit Van has provided rides to Lamorinda residents who are 60+ and residents with disabilities to run errands, go shopping, get to medical and personal appointments in Lamorinda and surrounding cities (Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek).
“Additionally, we provide rides to the Costa Café at the Walnut Creek Senior Center for lunch and to Lamorinda Movers monthly dinner at the Serbian Church in Moraga. We offer weekday rides and operate by appointment on a first-come, first-served basis,” explained Katayanagi.
The cost per ride for errands and appointments is currently $5 within Lamorinda and $10 for eligible destinations outside of Lamorinda. The Spirit Van program is funded by Federal grants, charitable donations, and contributions by the Town of Moraga and the City of Lafayette.

Lamorinda Village

The City also partners with Lamorinda Village by offering subsidized memberships to income-qualified people over age 55 living in Lafayette. Lamorinda Village is a locally-based, non-profit organization that provides services and programs that empower seniors to remain independent in their homes.
