Moraga Police Log: Driveway Dispute, Teen Liquor Theft, Election Sign Vandalism

Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Some of the items listed on the Moraga Police Department log from Oct. 16 to Oct. 22.

Wednesday, Oct. 16

Angry neighbor: Police responded to a home on Camino Pablo at 12:32 p.m. A resident reported her neighbor had become upset because a service van was parked on her side of their shared driveway. The woman was reportedly argumentative before the van was moved. She then drove her car up and down the driveway for no apparent reason. Officers advised the resident to obtain an attorney or put up a fence down the middle of the driveway.

Thursday, Oct. 17

Cow on the loose: Officers responded to the 500 block of Rheem Boulevard at 12:33 p.m. to reports of a cow on the roadway. An officers was able to lead the bovine back to the rest of its herd.

Auto burglary: At 7:15 p.m., a man notified police that his wallet and cell phone had been taken from his locked vehicle while it was parked at Moraga Commons Park. A passenger side window of the car had been smashed.

Liquor theft: Officers were dispatched to the Safeway store on Moraga Road at 10:29 p.m. The store manager said a group of three teen boys and one teen girl had been acting suspiciously earlier in the evening. Video security tape showed one of the boys stashing two bottles of liquor under his sweatshirt. The boy and the girl both items at the check stand, but neither of them paid for the liquor.

Saturday, Oct. 19

Unprovoked fight: Officers went to a parking lot in the 600 block of Moraga Road for a report of a fight between two young men. Officers determined a 25-year-old man had started the fight unprovoked. They determined he was a danger to himself and others and transported to county mental health facilities.

DUI arrest: A 23-year-old woman was arrested for driving under the influence after her car was stopped at 11:45 p.m. at Moraga Road and Buckingham Drive. A breath test showed her blood-alcohol level was .14 percent. A 22-year-old male passenger in her car was arrested for public intoxication.

Loud party: Officers were dispatched to an apartment on the 2000 block of Ascot Drive for a report of a loud party. They found 100 people partying near one apartment. The apartment tenants agreed to break up the celebration.

Monday, Oct. 21

Election sign vandalism: Police were notified at 2:54 p.m. that election signs in various parts of town had been ripped up and left on the ground.

Tuesday, Oct. 22

Sleeping man: Police were dispatched to Moraga Commons Park at 7:34 a.m. on reports of a man sleeping in a wooded area. Officers contacted the adult male and determined he had been reported missing from Concord. The man said he was on his way to San Francisco. Officers gave him a ride to the Orinda BART station and notified his family.
