Murder Suspect In Orinda Beating Caught in San Leandro

A suspect in an attempted Orinda homicide has been arrested, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

ORINDA - A suspect in an attempted Orinda homicide has been arrested, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

21-year-old Falealea Tytus Maka was nabbed last Wednesday in an unincorporated part of San Leandro by a US Marshals' Fugitive Task Force and the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Warrant Service Unit.

Authorities say on February 13, Maka was involved in a fight outside a house party on Camino Encinas in Orinda.

According to deputies, after the victim was knocked unconscious, Maka continued to beat the Chabot College student, who is still in the hospital.

The 21-year-old victim, who remains unidentified, is from Florida, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Maka also has an outstanding arrest warrant in Utah for home invasion and armed robbery.

Falealea Tytus Maka was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on charges that include attempted murder. His bail is set at $2 million.
