Safeway Celebrates Grand Reopening Of Lafayette Store

As part of reopening ceremonies at Lafayette and Walnut Creek stores, the Safeway Foundation donated a total of $9,000 to local nonprofits.

LAFAYETTE, CA — Safeway celebrated the grand reopening Wednesday of remodeled stores in Lafayette and Walnut Creek.

The stores at 3540 Mt. Diablo Blvd in Lafayette and 710 Bancroft Road in Walnut Creek have expanded amenities and options, including fresh offerings across various departments.

City and community leaders were on hand for ribbon-cutting ceremonies Wednesday morning in celebration of the remodels. The Safeway Foundation marked the occasion by presenting $3,000 in donations to local nonprofit organizations Mobility Matters and White Pony Express. There will also be customer giveaways throughout the week.

Updates to the Contra Costa stores — including a remodel celebrated July 27 at the Safeway at 600 South Broadway in Walnut Creek — are the culmination of Safeway’s investment to enhance the shopping experience throughout its operations.

"We are committed to better serve our communities and re-invest in our stores," said Karl Schroeder, president of Safeway’s Northern California Division. "We are excited about the expanded variety and assortment at these locations. Customers will find a premium and robust selection of fresh, local, and organic offerings tailored to serve their needs."

Updates Celebrated At Lafayette Safeway, Mt. Diablo Road

Following a remodel, the Safeway at 3540 Mt. Diablo Road in Lafayette has increased its offerings to include:

  • Fresh entrees, salads and hand-crafted sandwiches, and ready-to-eat, heat and cook options from chef-inspired recipes.
  • Full-service meat and seafood counter with more variety, organic options, increased local offerings and knowledgeable seafood experts, including oyster bars.
  • Elevated cake experience with premium offerings, and indulgent donuts, muffins and Safeway’s famous French bread — all made from scratch.
  • Safeway is already the state’s largest buyer of locally grown produce—plus an assortment of organic fresh-cut options with an increased variety of specialty fruits and vegetables.
  • An increased array of specialty items from boutique producers, local and gourmet cheeses.
  • Master designers for floral arrangements of all occasions.

The Lafayette Safeway also has a new concierge service to help coordinate catering needs and special orders, wine clubs, sampling events, and community gatherings. The concierge can customize catering, menu planning and floral arrangements. Customers will also notice the store's premium deli department with in-store skilled chefs, a chocolatier, and a full-service kitchen.

Today, the company operates 290 stores across Northern California, Nevada and Hawaii under four banners, including Andronico’s, Safeway, Pak N’ Save and Vons. In 2022, the Safeway Northern California Division donated over $27 million in food and financial support to charitable organizations in the communities it serves.
