Wreaths Across America Honors a Hero: Edward Charles Allen
A Marine, Purple Heart Recipient, and Lifelong Servant of His Country and Community

Among those laid to rest in Lafayette Cemetery is American hero Edward Charles Allen of the U.S. Marine Corps. Allen was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and courage at the Battle of Iwo Jima, a medal given only to those wounded or killed in service. The Marines landed on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945, and faced 36 days of fierce combat, with approximately 20,000 Marines wounded. Allen survived the battle and went on to serve his country in many roles, including as a firefighter and a Boy Scout leader. We honor his service and sacrifice with deep gratitude and thanksgiving, remembering his commitment to his country and his community.
Wreaths Across America: On Saturday, December 14, at noon, the Acalanes Chapter DAR, VFW Post 8063 and volunteers will place a wreath on the grave of Edward Charles Allen and 334 more veterans at the historic Lafayette Cemetery. The public is invited to participate.
