Wreaths Across America Honors Heroes: Remembering Aaron Kennedy Stull

How a Brave Teenager Became a WWII Hero and the Legacy We Continue to Uphold

In 1942, at just 15 years old, Aaron Kennedy Stull made a bold decision that changed his life forever. Without his parents’ knowledge, he left home and enlisted in the U.S. Army under the name Aaron Kennedy.

As a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, Aaron participated in the pivotal D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach. Following heavy casualties, the surviving paratroopers were reassigned to the 101st Airborne Division. Aaron went on to fight at Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded in action. A Catholic chaplain discovered him on the battlefield and transported him to a hospital, where his real age and identity were finally uncovered. His parents were contacted, and Aaron was discharged from the military. For his bravery, Aaron received the Purple Heart.

This year, as we honor Aaron Stull and countless other veterans, the Acalanes Chapter DAR and VFW Post 8063 invite the community to participate in National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, December 14, at noon. Volunteers will gather to place wreaths on veterans’ headstones, ensuring that each name is spoken aloud in remembrance.
