Young Writers Invited to Enter American History Essay Contest
Acalanes Chapter DAR offers prizes and recognition for students in grades 5–8; deadline to enter is October 15.

The Acalanes Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is inviting young writers in grades 5–8 to participate in the American History Essay Contest, a national competition that connects students with the stories of America’s founding.
A Chance to Imagine History
This year’s essay theme encourages students to reflect on America’s 250th birthday in 2026. Contestants are asked: If you could share lunch with one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who would you choose and why? The challenge allows students to imagine conversations with remarkable figures while exploring their courage and impact on the birth of our nation.
Local Recognition and Prizes
The Acalanes Chapter will select one winner in each grade — 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th — to receive $100, a certificate, and a DAR pin. One runner-up in each grade will be awarded $50 and a certificate. Every student who enters will be recognized with a certificate of participation, ensuring their effort is celebrated.
