Computer Thieves Strike Marin Country Day School
Scams and school fights reported to the Twin Cities Police during the past week, Oct. 12-18.
The Marin Country Day School reported the theft of 20 laptop computers from a classroom sometime during the night. The electronic gate was jimmied and the rear door to the classroom was pried open. All the laptops are silver 13" Apple Macbook Pros with an estimated total loss of $24,000. A Commercial Burglary report was taken for documentation and there is possible follow-up pending.
This comes the same week when 20 laptops were stolen from Strawberry Point Elementary School.
• Twin Cities Police Officers responded to San Andreas High School for a report that they had a combative student at the school. Two students were arrested for Battery on a School Official and released to their parents on citations. The Larkspur Fire Department responded to the school for a teacher who had a previous cut that was re-opened during the scuffle.
• A teacher at Redwood High School reported the theft of her flash drive. The incident was documented and there is follow-up pending with a possible involved person.
• Twin Cities Police received a call from Henry C. Hall Middle School advising there had been a disturbance between two students involving cap guns on campus and both juveniles are currently being detained in the office. A Larkspur juvenile male and a Corte Madera juvenile male were contacted, reprimanded, and released to the school.
• Pursuant to a traffic stop, 18-year-old Robert Lewis of Greenbrae was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. A Larkspur juvenile male was arrested and booked into the Marin County Juvenile Hall for Violation of Probation, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Over an Ounce of Marijuana for Sale, and Possession of Vicodin without a Prescription.
• A San Rafael resident reported that she forgot her wallet in the bathroom at Boudin, located in the Village Shopping Center, and when she returned 10 minutes later, the wallet was gone. She advised she had all of her credit card accounts closed, but there is $10,000 in un-cashed checks in the wallet. Documentation was provided for the theft.
• Twin Cities Police received three reports of a phone scam that's been making the rounds lately. The scammer calls a party, pretending to be the victim's grandchild and asking for money.
-- A resident of the 80 block of Granada Drive reported having received a call from an unknown number stating "Hi grandma. Can I talk to grandpa?" She yelled into the phone "I don't have a grandson; you better hang up before I call the police." Documentation was provided for the incident.
-- A resident in the 10 block of Laderman Lane reported having received a phone call stating "Hello Grandma can I speak to Grandpa, I broke my nose that's probably why you don't recognize my voice." The subject then asked for $1,000. She advised the she knew this was a scam and hung up. Documentation was provided for the incident only at this time.
-- A resident of the 20 block of Lark Court reported that she received a phone call regarding her granddaughter being in jail. When asked for the granddaughter’s date of birth, the subject disconnected. Documentation of the incident was provided.
• Twin Cities Police received a call from a woman who stated she had been accosted by a man who stated he had a gun and will be standing by their vehicle in the Village Shopping Center. Prior to a Unit's arrival it was determined to be a dispute between a mother and her son. Contact made was with a Mill Valley resident and her son. He was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for an outstanding Felony Warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
• A business in the 500 block of Tamalpais Drive reported graffiti on their building. Photographs were taken to document the vandalism.
• Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Redwood Highway, a Novato woman was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol. She was booked at Marin County Jail.
• A business in the Corte Madera Town Center reported approximately 45 minutes prior to their call; someone stole five pairs of Dolce Gabbana glasses frames. They advised the theft was unwitnessed. Total loss $1,150. Documentation was provided for the theft.
• A resident of the 500 block of Redwood Avenue reported that the registration tabs were stolen from the rear license plate of her vehicle while it was parked in the area of her residence. Documentation was provided for the theft.
• Pursuant to being contacted by TCPD Officers in an occupied vehicle in the 400 block of Magnolia Avenue, a Larkspur man and a Mill Valley man were arrested for Unlawful possession of Nitrous Oxide. They were booked into the Marin County Jail.
• A Larkspur resident reported that while she was running on the bike path in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Ward Street in the morning, a man with a dog off leash approached her. As the man came up to her, he stuck his leg out, tripping her and caused her to fall to her hands and knees. She did not have the subject's information and advised she hasn't seen him before. The incident was documented.
• Pursuant to contacting hitchhikers in the area of southbound Highway US 101 above Wornum Drive, a San Rafael woman was arrested for Possession of Narcotics, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, and Violation of Probation. She was booked into Marin County Jail.
• While on patrol, a TCPD Officer located a vehicle with a smashed window parked at the end of Industrial at the Greenbrae Boardwalk. The owner was contacted and advised it occurred in the 2 Fifer parking lot earlier that day. Taken was a black knapsack containing a checkbook, a Canon digital camera valued at $300, books and men's clothing.
• The owner of a business in the 900 block of Magnolia Avenue reported a broken window at the business. A rock was thrown through the top corner of a plate glass window, however no entry was made. Documentation of the vandalism was provided.
• A business in the Corte Madera Town Center reported they received two counterfeit $100 bills from a male subject. He was last seen on foot approximately 10 minutes ago headed through the shopping center. The area was checked with negative results. The loss was approximately $108 in merchandise and $92 in the change given to the subject. A report was taken for Counterfeiting and Commercial Burglary. There is follow-up pending as there is possible suspect information.
• A San Rafael resident reported that while she was at the Apple Store in the Village Shopping Center, her 11-year-old daughter set down her green iTouch Nano next to her when she was looking at a computer and someone came in and stole it. The loss is approximately $150. The theft was documented.
• Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 200 block of Tamalpais Drive, a Corte Madera woman was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol. She was booked at the Marin County Jail.
• Pursuant to locating him in an occupied vehicle at the Greenbrae Chevron Station in the Bon Air Shopping Center, a San Rafael man was arrested for an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and was booked at the Marin County Jail.
• A resident in the 10 block of Corte Lenosa reported he came out of his residence to go to work and discovered the driver's side windows and rear window were smashed. No property was taken from the vehicle. The area and vehicle were checked for evidence, but none was located. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.
• The manager of the Woodlark Apartment Building, 965 Magnolia Avenue reported three storage lockers were broken into in the underground lot at Woodlark Apartments during the night. Approximate loss is $4,000. Follow-up is pending with the last victim.
• A Corte Madera resident reported that while their vehicle was parked, locked, in a lot at the Village Shopping Center, her vehicle was entered and her Mac Book Pro, valued at $1,400 was taken. An Auto Burglary report was taken to document the theft.
• A Fairfax resident reported that his vehicle was parked in the lot for the last week at the Marin Airporter, 300 Larkspur Landing Circle, and when he returned, he found the rear window of his vehicle was shattered and a rock was inside. It appears that nothing was missing from the vehicle. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.
• While the Officer was out on the previous incident, he found a vehicle with a left wing window smashed out. It appeared that no entry gained and that nothing was missing. A note was left for the registered owner with documentation for the vandalism.

• Jon Wardlaw of Kentfield was arrested by the Sheriffs Office and booked into Marin County Jail on felony counts of burglary, receiving known stolen property and forging a prescription for a controlled substance. His bail was set at $15,000.
During this one week time period, Twin Cities Police had 330 calls for service. This included four calls related to accidents with minor injuries, two hit and run accidents and eight property damage only accidents. There were two auto burglaries, one commercial burglary and one residential burglary. There were four calls related to Driving while Intoxicated, resulting in two arrests.
