Stephanie Maroney, MD, and Sean Maroney, MD, Join MarinHealth
Board-Certified Surgeons Will See Patients in Larkspur and Novato

GREENBRAE, CA, February 14, 2024 – MarinHealth today announced that board-certified surgeons Stephanie Maroney, MD, FACS, and Sean Maroney, MD—a married couple—have joined MarinHealth’s surgery team. The physicians will see patients in the MarinHealth General & Colorectal Surgery clinic in Larkspur and Novato, and will perform procedures at MarinHealth Medical Center in Greenbrae.

Board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, Dr. Stephanie Maroney specializes in trauma and acute care surgery, surgical critical care, and general surgery. She has also been appointed Medical Director of MarinHealth Medical Center’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She completed an Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston through Harvard Medical School, following an internship and residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. Dr. Maroney completed medical school at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.

Prior to joining MarinHealth, Dr. Maroney spent two years as an Acute Care Surgeon and Surgical Critical Care at Newton Wellesley Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, dividing her time between elective and acute care surgery and emergency general and trauma surgery. She previously served as an attending general surgeon at the Loma Linda VA Hospital and was an assistant professor of surgery at Loma Linda University. She is dedicated to mastering the latest surgical techniques and medical advancements. By continuously pursuing excellence in her practice, she aims to provide the highest standard of medical expertise infused with the warmth of genuine empathy, ensuring the best possible outcomes for her patients. Born and raised in Marin County, Dr. Maroney has returned to the area to be closer to family.
Dual board-certified in both Colon and Rectal Surgery and General Surgery, Dr. Sean Maroney specializes in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions related to the colon, rectum, and anus. Dr. Maroney has extensive training and experience with robotic surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System to perform intracorporeal anastomosis, which allows for smaller incisions, less pain, a significantly faster recovery time, and a shorter hospital stay. He also performs transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) for rectal tumors. If the cancer is found early, most of these patients may not need chemotherapy or radiation and can move on with their lives. Dr. Maroney completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH. He completed a general surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA, and earned his medical degree at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Maroney strives to build long-term relationships with his patients and ensure they are fully informed of their treatment options before pursuing a treatment plan.

The couple met in medical school and have two children: a four-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son, who are both enjoying their new schools. As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors, including hiking, camping, and exploring local beaches and all the Marin and the Bay Area have to offer. Outside of work, Dr. Stephanie Maroney enjoys running and painting, while Dr. Sean Maroney’s hobbies include skiing and golfing.
