14-Year-Old Car Thief Jumps Out Of Moving Car During Police Chase: Cops

Police said that a 14-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger jumped out of a moving car, which crashed into a nearby apartment building.

LIVERMORE, CA — A 14-year-old driver and his 15-year-old passenger jumped out of an allegedly stolen car still moving, causing it to crash into a nearby apartment building, according to the Livermore Police Department.

Police said that this marks the second time in five days that the same 14-year-old fled police in a stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday just after 1 a.m., Livermore police located a car traveling eastbound on I-580 near El Charro Road that matched description of a vehicle recently reported stolen, the department said in a news release.

Officers followed the vehicle as it exited the freeway, and attempted a stop near Jack London Boulevard and Murrieta Boulevard. The driver did not yield, and a pursuit began. Police said the car drove at up to twice the posted limit, and ran stop signs.

Officers briefly lost sight of the vehicle, but later located it at Leahy Square Apartments at 3203 Leahy Way. When they approached, the 14-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger reportedly jumped out of the moving car, which then rolled into the side of an apartment building and caused roughly $5,000 in damage.
