LIVERMORE, CA — Hundreds have donated more than $41,000 to the family of Hunter Diemert, 15, of Livermore, who was killed Friday night in a crash that left five other local teenagers with serious and minor injuries.

The two-car crash at Del Valle Road occurred around 11:20 p.m. and sent one car rolling down an embankment. Two people were airlifted to area hospitals, four others were taken to trauma centers by ambulance and one person was trapped in a vehicle and had to be extricated after crews stabilized the car, the Alameda County Fire Department said.

Multiple people were ejected from the car and it's unclear whether seatbelts were in use, said California Highway Patrol spokesperson Tyler Hahn in an email. Investigators believe speed may have played a role in the crash but witness statements must still be taken.

Jennifer Silva started fundraising efforts for the Livermore High School student over the weekend through an online crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe. More than 500 donors contributed to help cover the cost of Diemert's memorial and support his family as of Tuesday morning. The GoFundMe page was shared about 3,000 times.

Hundreds gathered Saturday night at the Livermore High School football field to honor Diemert's life, ABC7 reported. He was just one month away from his 16th birthday, according to a tribute on the GoFundMe page.

Diemert left behind his parents, Steve and Amy, and his sister, Anna.

"No words can express our collective sadness and grief at this tragic news. Our hearts go out to this young man's loved ones and our entire school community," said Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Superintendent Kelly Bowers Saturday in an email to the school community. "We are all understandably grieving this tragic loss of young life. In this difficult aftermath, we are sending hope and strength for a full recovery to our other injured students involved and their families."

In a tribute on the GoFundMe page benefitting Diemert's family, Diemert was remembered as a boy who "touched so many lives and still had so much to do in life."

"Donating to this GoFundMe will allow his family to take the time needed to learn a new way of life without Hunter, to relish in the memories, share stories, cry, laugh, hug and grieve together," organizers wrote.

He loved to make friends laugh and spend time outdoors.

Diemert was a talented wrestler who was a "great teammate, and a great kid," the Livermore Wrestling Club said in a tribute on its Facebook page.

"The only time Hunter would be upset is if he lost a match, however after a snack and some time with his teammates his smile would return, and he was ready to get back on the mat and battle," loved ones wrote in the tribute on GoFundMe.

Off the mat, Diemert was a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan who loved fishing, hiking, riding dirt bikes, camping and swimming. He spent many weekends over the past year with his dad fixing up a vintage pickup truck that he saved up to purchase.

More than a dozen people offered condolences, thoughts and prayers in comments on the GoFundMe page as donations small and large poured in.

"Hunter was the brightest smile in the room," one donor said.

Students and staff at Livermore schools continued to grieve the loss of a life taken too soon and "will pull together, comfort and support each other," Bowers said in her email. Crisis support teams will be available to assist those touched by the tragedy, she added.

"This is a somber reminder of just how precious life is and we take this time to ask for your continued assistance and commitment to keeping our young people safe and sound, in our schools as well as throughout our city," Bowers said.

The crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact CHP investigators at 925-828-0466.
