$6K Raised For Livermore Native Facing Emergency Cancer Surgery
A fundraiser is ongoing for Jo Anne Hamby-Moreno, a mother of five, nurse and local volunteer facing chemotherapy and surgery.
LIVERMORE, CA — More than $6,000 has been raised in an online crowdfunding campaign to benefit Livermore native Jo Anne Hamby-Moreno, a mother of five who purchased her first home days before learning she had been diagnosed with cancer and needed chemotherapy and emergency surgery, a friend said.
Sarah Boswell-Patterson of Livermore organized the fundraiser this month through GoFundMe. Dozens of donors have contributed to help Hamby-Moreno, a nurse who coached soccer, taught children to read and write through the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District and is a selfless friend who never seeks anything in return, Boswell-Patterson wrote.
Hamby-Moreno received her cancer diagnosis while her family was busy packing up their Livermore home to move into their recently purchased house out-of-state, Boswell-Patterson wrote. She soon learned that she needed emergency surgery and chemotherapy, among other treatments.
