BREAKING: Two Hospitalized Following Sunday Night Crash Near Livermore

PLEASANTON, CA: Two women were hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday night after their vehicle crashed into a power pole in Pleasanton, leaving hundreds of customers, including a fire station, without power. Around 8:30 p.m., police and fire crews responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Vineyard Avenue near Machado Place, according to Livermore-Pleasanton fire Battalion Chief Mike Miller.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the vehicle had crashed into a power pole, knocking it down and causing power lines to fall to the ground. One of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle and was lying on the ground, while the driver was pinned inside the vehicle, fire officials said. Emergency crews took about 20 minutes to extricate the female driver from the vehicle.

The two women were then taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, according to fire officials. The crash caused a power outage, which affected a nearby fire station. About 500 customers in the area were left without power, according to PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian. PG&E crews responded to the scene and worked through the night to fix the outage.

As of 11 a.m. this morning, about 65 customers are without power and crews remain on the scene and are hoping to have power fully restored in the area by sometime later this afternoon, Sarkissian said. "If you ever see a downed or low power lines, always assume that they're live and call 911 right away," Sarkissian said.

Vineyard Avenue was closed following the crash between Machado Place and Ruby Hill Boulevard. As of 11 a.m., at least one lane has opened, with traffic controls allowing vehicles to get through from both directions. All lanes of the road are expected to open later this afternoon once the outage is repaired, according to Sarkissian.
