Card Room Shuffle
Council approves plan to allow downtown card room to move into facility on North Canyons Parkway.
A Livermore card room received the go ahead to relocate into a facility on the west side of town.
Council members unanimously approved the plans Monday, which include a conditional use permit, an amendment to the city's development code and a development agreement.
The , now at downtown, will relocate and expand under the name 580 Casino. The card room will feature a 29-seat restaurant.

The card room and restaurant will occupy more than 8,300 square feet at the west end of a 42,000-square foot building at 950 North Canyons Parkway, according to city staff reports. Tri-Valley Moto and Arizona Tile are also in the building.
Chief Steve Sweeney said the card room's new home is a concern because it is not on the department's routine patrol routes.

Changes will have to be made to ensure adequate patrol coverage, he said, and response times may be an issue because of how far the facility is from department headquarters in south Livermore.
As part of the deal, the card room will have to share a portion of its revenue with the city.
In its first three years of operation, the card room will have to kick $300 to $500 a month per table to the city. The revenue to the city increases each year. By the sixth and seventh year of operation, 580 Casino would be paying up to $1,500 per month per table to the city.
Casino 580 will have 10 card tables, according to a city staff report.
