Coroner IDs Mother & Toddler Killed In Livermore Crash: Report

A 24-year-old mother and her five-year-old daughter from Manteca were killed in a fiery crash on South Vasco Road early July 21.

LIVERMORE, CA — The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau confirmed to The Livermore Vine the identities of a young mother and daughter killed in a car crash in Livermore Sunday, July 21.

24-year-old Tahlaynah Casuga and 4-year-old Katana Casuga were killed in a fiery crash that also left Katana’s 25-year-old father in critical condition. The coroner did not release the father’s name or provide an update on his current condition.

The crash took place just before 2:30 a.m. July 21, according to police. According to a preliminary investigation, the family’s black Hyundai was traveling northbound on South Vasco Road, north of Las Positas Road. After the intersection, the car traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree for unknown reasons. Investigators believe the fire was caused by the impact of the crash.

Police say it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

The father’s sister set up a GoFundMe for the family. “With a heavy heart on Sunday July 21st, my brother and his family were in a severe, lifetaking car accident,” it reads. “My loving sister in law, Tahlaynah Sharee Casuga (24) and my sweet beautiful niece, Katana Marie Casuga (4), lost their lives in the accident. Any proceedings donated will be going towards a proper service and burial.”
