Coroner IDs Wrong-Way Driver In Livermore Crash

The driver died in a wrong-way crash involving multiple cars on I-580 early Sunday morning.

LIVERMORE, CA — A woman who died after she drove her car the wrong way on Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore early Sunday morning was identified by the Alameda County coroner on Monday as 24-year-old Gabriela Perez-Ramirez of Manteca.

The California Highway Patrol said Perez-Ramirez was driving a 2004 Buick LeSabre west in the eastbound direction of Highway 580 at about 6:21 a.m. on Sunday when she collided head-on with an oncoming 2014 Nissan Altima.

The CHP said Perez-Ramirez wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old Newark woman who was driving the Nissan suffered serious injuries and was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley to be treated, according to the CHP.
