Fight Led to Temporary Closure of Chestnut Street in North Livermore
Police say reports of gun and bats used in fight unfounded.

Police on Friday afternoon temporarily shut down a portion of Chestnut Street after receiving reports of a fight that involved a gun and bats.
No weapons were found after officers responded to the scene with guns drawn, Sgt. Brian Martinez said.
"It was a big something for nothing," he said.

At about 3 p.m. police received a call from a resident that two females were fighting on the 2100 block of Chestnut Street.
"The report came out as an assault with a deadly weapon involving bats and someone possibly saw a gun," Martinez said.

It was later determined that the suspects' boyfriends were also involved in the fight.
An officer who first arrived at the scene saw the suspects run into a house.
Six officers, unsure if the suspects are armed with weapons, set up a perimeter around the house and closed Chestnut Street from North K Street to North Livermore Avenue.
"It looked like a bigger deal than it was," Martinez said. "But we have to treat it like a big deal because of the report of weapons."
Officers were able to get the suspects to come out unarmed and peacefully from the house after speaking through a PA system.
"To add more to the confusion we get a report from a citizen that the other people involved in the fight are inside a house on K Street," Martinez said.
Officers then detained those suspects from a home on the 200 block of K Street.
"We were unable to prove there was a bat or gun involved and there were no substantial injuries," Martinez said. "At that point it became a misdemeanor battery. Everyone involved decided to not pursue charges against each other and just let it go."
Chestnut Street was reopened at about 4 p.m. and the fight was not gang related, Martinez said.
