Fire At Tracy Pallet Facility Causes Evacuations, Outages, Closures

A three-alarm fire at a pallet facility broke out Thursday morning near Grant Line Road in Banta.

TRACY, CA — Roads are closed, school is canceled, and at least 19 homes are being evacuated due to a large fire that started at the GMA Pallet Recycling Corporation in Tracy, according to fire departments and numerous reports.

The fire was first reported just before 2 a.m. on Grant Line Road in Banta, according to the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority. The fire quickly spread to about five acres, and was upgraded to a three-alarm fire.

The fire department said that while the fire is under control as of 9:04 a.m. Thursday, crews will remain on scene for an unknown period of time. Grant Line Road is closed from the 11th Street roundabout to Banta Road. There is no estimated time for when the road will reopen, Tracy police said.

The Banta Unified School District canceled classes Thursday, according to ABC10. It is set to reopen Friday.

261 PG&E customers in Banta were without power due to the fire as of 7:30 a.m., according to ABC, but that has been lowered to 40 as of 9:45 a.m., according to PG&E.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
