UPDATE: Firefighters Extinguish Fire on Saddleback Circle
Blaze that spread to two homes caused by used coals dumped in garbage bin, officials said.
Firefighters on Tuesday night extinguished a fire that spread to two homes on the 800 block of Saddleback Circle, said Jeff Peters, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department battalion chief.
The blaze was caused by used coals that were dumped in a trash can that caught fire. The blaze spread to a nearby tree and along a fence line between the two homes, Peters said.
Emergency crews were notified of the blaze about 9:01 p.m.

Rincon Avenue-based was the first crew to arrive on scene.
"They knocked it down pretty quick to keep it from spreading," Peters said.

Four other fire engines responded to the blaze and crews extinguished the fire about 9:15 p.m.
Residents of both homes evacuated safely and no injuries were reported, Peters said.
Both homes had exterior side damage and the blaze broke through a side window of one home, causing minimal interior damage.
The fire also spread through the neighboring home's attic, Peters said.
Fires caused by used coals dumped in trash bins are not uncommon, he said.
